Yalemzerf Yehualaw finishes the Gdynia Half Marathon third
Addis Ababa, October 17, 2020 (FBC) – Yalemzerf Yhualaw has won the bronze medal at the World Athletics Half Marathon Championships Gdynia 2020. She has finished the half marathon with a close third in 1:05:19.
The Kenyan athlete, Jepchirchir has broken the women-only world record at the half marathon in 1:05:19.
On the Championships, the Ethiopian trio Yalemzerf yehualaw, Zeineba Yimer and Ababel Yeshaneh completed the half marathon 3rd, 4th and 5th following one another.
“It’s unbelievable,” said Jepchirchir. “My goal was to win this race. I did not expect that I would beat the world record, but I realised that it could happen when we passed 20km. It was a little bit windy, but the course was good for me.”
In the team event, Ethiopia has produced best commutative time with 3:16:39 smashing the championship record.
On the other hand, Amdework Walelign has also finished third the Men’s race of the World Athletics Half Marathon Championships Gdynia 2020.
