World lacks evidence-based analysis concerning conflict in northern part of Ethiopia
Addis Ababa, October 14, 2022 (FBC) – Director of Balsillie School of International Affairs, Professor Ann Fitz-Gerald took part in a community consultation organized by Jimma University.
Addressing the gatherings, Ann Fitz-Gerald said that the world lacks evidence-based analysis on the situation concerning the conflict in the northern part of the country.
She added that Ethiopia is an important geostrategic corner of the world and, as such, needed to balance respect for the internal affairs of the nation, with both international norms and standards as well as African-led processes. She cited the initially slow support towards both the regions of amhara and afar, which, like Tigray, had also always hosted food-stressed and highly arid regions.
Professor Ann Fitz-Gerald underscored the importance of Ethiopian unity, both at home and in the diaspora, and called for enhanced efforts to restore peace and damaged infrastructures for the wellbeing of citizens.
“Not all people in Tigray were certainly supporting the TPLF”, the professor said, drawing on her research findings . She revealed through her study findings that the people in Tigray have been affected by the war. Ann added that the people in the region are committed to national unity.
Jimma University has recognized Professor Ann Fitz-Gerald for her contribution to the peace and development aspirations of Ethiopia.
