World Bank pledges to continue supporting Ethiopia in enhancing water resource management
Addis Ababa, March 26, 2015 (FBC) Minister of Water and Energy, Habtamu Itefa had a discussion with Director for the World Bank Group’s Water Global Practice (GP) Saroj Kumar and his delegation.
The two sides highlighted the need to improve the use and management of national water resources.
It has been pointed out that the World Bank has provided financial assistance of close to 1.3 billion US dollars to Ethiopia so far enabling up to 10 million Ethiopians to have access to drinking water.
It was stated on the occasion that Ethiopia is facing various challenges in managing Ethiopia’s surface and underground water resources because of drought, conflict, floods and impacts of landscape
The Director further stated that World Bank attaches a particular attention to the assistance it is providing to Ethiopia, pledging readiness to respond to Ethiopia’s need for strategic support in the water management sector.
