WHO calls on Africa prepare for the worst as coronavirus begins to spread
Addis Ababa, March 19, 2020 (FBC) – Africa should “prepare for the worst” as the coronavirus begins to spread locally, the World Health Organization’s Director-General said Wednesday.
“I think Africa should wake up. My continent should wake up,” said WHO Chief Tedros Adhanom, who comes from Ethiopia.
The number of coronavirus cases worldwide has now passed 200,000, according to the latest figures from Johns Hopkins University.
The total is now 221,416 confirmed cases, and 8,966 deaths.
China still has the highest number of confirmed cases (81,154), while Italy has the second highest with 35,713.
