Addis Ababa, October 13, 2020 (FBC) – World Food Programme (WFP) has announced launch of Satellite Based Index Insurance Programme (SIIP) Project in Ethiopia.
The fund for the SIIP programme has been secured from the government of the Kingdom of Denmark.
The new insurance scheme is intended to benefit pastoralists in Ethiopia, a communication officer at WFP, Edward Johnson said.
“Resilience building against climatic shocks and adapting to climate change is key to protect livelihoods. Denmark is proud to be supporting such a program.” The Danish Embassy in Addis Ababa tweeted.
The insurance system is aimed to search for technological solutions to climate shocks among the pastoral community.
