Upper House passes referendum bill in response to regional entreat

Addis Ababa, August 18, 2022 (FBC) – The House of Federation has passed a referendum bill in response to petitions for formation of new cluster regional administration from 6 zones and 5 special districts (tribe-based woredas).

The House has received the petition from Wolayita Zone, Gamo Zone, Gofa Zone, South Omo Zone, Gedeo Zone, Konso Zone, as well as Derashe Special District, Amaro Special District, Burji Special District, Alle Special District and Basketo Special District.

The House, on the other hand, has passed the bill on the remaining areas such as Hadya Zone, Halaba Zone, Kenbata Tanbaro Zone, Gurage Zone, Silte Zone and Yem Special District to continue in the existing region under the existing Southern Nations, Nationalities and Peoples Region.
