UNHCR relocates refugees from Sudan to new settlement in Ethiopia
Addis Ababa, June 12, 2023 (FBC) – The UN Refugee Agency operating in Ethiopia (UNHCR) along with Refugees and Returnees Service (RRS) and the International Organization for Migration (IOM Ethiopia) are relocating refugees from Sudan to a new settlement in Kumer, Amhara region of Ethiopia.
It is stated that the new settlement aims to pursue solutions from the start, facilities and services in the area which is expanded to ensure that both refugees and hosts can benefit from inclusion approach.
According to European Commission the conflict that broke out in Sudan in April 2023 has resulted in loss of life and pushed over 1 million people to seek for safety.
It is estimated that over 250,000 people have fled to neighbouring countries, including Ethiopia.
