UNESCO to commemorate Adwa victory
Addis Ababa, March 2, 2021 (FBC) -The United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) will commemorate Adwa victory on 5 March 2021.
It will be celebrated for the first time ever with the theme: “The Battle of Adwa: A decisive milestone in the struggle for the liberation of the African continent”.
Dr. Hirut Kassaw, Ethiopian Minister of Culture and Tourism and other UNESCO officials are expected to deliver opening remarks, according to Ethiopian embassy in France.
The Battle of Adwa, where Ethiopia defeated Italy, changed the global order for ever with the signing by Italy of treaty of Addis Ababa on 26 October 1896, which recognizes Ethiopia as sovereign equal of European nations.
It ignited and served as catalyst for liberation of Africa and the Panafrican movement, the embassy said.
