UNDRR lauds Ethiopia’s disaster risk reduction initiatives
Addis Ababa, June 1, 2024 (FBC) – The Ethiopian Ambassador to Switzerland and the United Nations in Geneva, Tsegab Kebebew, engaged in a discussion with Paola Albrito, the Director of the United Nations Office for Disaster Risk Reduction (UNDRR) in Geneva, on Friday, May 31st.
During their meeting, Ambassador Tsegab provided the Director with an overview of Ethiopia’s activities and initiatives in the realm of disaster risk reduction.
He also highlighted some of the challenges faced in the Horn of Africa region due to the effects of climate change, as well as the recurring droughts and floods.
The Director expressed her appreciation for the Ethiopian government’s dedication to implementing initiatives focused on building resilient communities against disasters and hazards.
She affirmed that the UNDRR will continue to strengthen its partnership with Ethiopia to safeguard vulnerable populations in the region from the impacts of natural disasters.
It has been learned that the Permanent Mission of Ethiopia in Geneva is poised to lead the UNDRR Support Group for a duration of one year, commencing from September 2024 and concluding in June 2025.
