Ethiopia’s provision of supportive environment for UN operations in HOA receives acclaim
Addis Ababa, February 21, 2025 (FMC) – The United Nations Under-Secretary-General for Safety and Security, Gilles Michaud, has commended Ethiopia for its ongoing peacekeeping mission in the horn of Africa region.
Ethiopia’s contribution in the UN peacekeeping mission was discussed this morning during a meeting between the East African nation’s Minister of Defense Engineer Aisha Mohammed and Under-Secretary-General Gilles Michaud.
On the occasion, the Under-Secretary-General touted Ethiopia’s key role as a partner for the United Nations.
He commended the country for its critical role in the UN’s humanitarian, development and peacebuilding efforts in the Horn of Africa, and acclaimed Ethiopia’s efforts to prioritize peacekeeping and the safety of United Nations personnel.
Ms. Aisha, for her part, assured that Ethiopia will continue its partnership with the UN and other diplomatic entities, as reported today by the Ethiopian defense ministry social media department.
Similarly, Ethiopia’s State Minister for Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Mesganu Arga received Gilles Michaud at his office today, the Ethiopian foreign ministry said in a social media post.
On the occasion, Ambassador Mesganu emphasized the importance of Ethiopia’s strong partnership with the United Nations and appreciated the regular exchange of views with senior UN officials.
Under-Secretary-General Gilles Michaud on his part acknowledged Ethiopia’s contributions to peacekeeping missions and appreciated the supportive environment the country provides for UN operations and staff.
Both sides discussed matters of mutual interest, including regional peace and security, and expressed their commitment to expanding collaboration in various areas.
