UN reaffirms full support to implementation of Pretoria Peace Agreement

Addis Ababa, May 2, 2023 (FBC) – Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Demeke Mekonnen has met and conferred with the United Nations’ Deputy Secretary-General (UNDSG), Amina J Mohammed.

During her meeting with DPM & FM the Deputy Secretary-General said the United Nations is committed to support the full implementation of the Pretoria Peace Agreement.

Amina added that the UN supports the reconstruction and rehabilitation projects to sustain and consolidate the peace.

UN is encouraged by the progress so far and commended all actors for their contributions to Ethiopia which is a beacon for peace in Africa, she noted.

The Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister, Demeke Mekonnen on his part, said the government of Ethiopia is committed to peace and underscored the fact that Ethiopia has embarked on new peace trajectory.

He also called upon the international community to scale up its support.
