UN Ethiopia, African Union extend New Year best wishes to Ethiopians
Addis Ababa, September 11, 2024 (FBC) โ African Union (AU), United Nations Mission in Addis Ababa, embassies, UN agencies, diplomats and heads of various organizations stationed in Addis Ababa have conveyed New Year best wishes to the people of Ethiopia.
Ethiopians are celebrating the first day of the New Year 2017 today with reinvigorated hope and optimism.
Marking the occasion, the Addis Ababa-based diplomatic community has extended New Year best wishes to Ethiopians and expressed optimism for the nation.
“๐๐๐ฅ๐ค๐๐ฆ ๐๐๐๐ข๐ฌ ๐๐ฆ๐๐ญ (Happy New Year – in Amharic Language) to all our Ethiopian brothers and sisters celebrating the ๐๐๐ฐ ๐๐๐๐ซ ๐๐๐๐. May this New Year bring good tidings and prosperity to the great nation and people of Ethiopia,” AUโs message reads.
The AU Commission Chairperson, Moussa Faki Mahamat also sent his congratulatory message to Ethiopians in a post published on social media platform X, stating, โMelkam Addis Amet!ย With my warmest wishes for a blessed new year full of peace, renewal andย prosperity to all our sisters, brothers, colleagues and friends celebrating Ethiopian New Year. Enkukatash!โ
“As we enter the New Ethiopian Year (2017 E.C.), on behalf of UN Ethiopia, I wish you all a Happy New Year,” UN Resident and Humanitarian Coordinator in Ethiopia Ramiz Alakbarov said.
Together, let’s embrace the New Year with enthusiasm and a shared vision for advancing sustainable and nationally-driven solutions for the people of Ethiopia, he noted.
The UN Mission in Addis Ababa also tweeted best wishes to Ethiopians, stating; โWishing all a happy and peaceful Ethiopian New Year (2017 E.C.)!โ
Various embassies based in Addis Ababa including the US, Russia, UK, Denmark, Sweden, Australia, Republic of Korea, India, China, France, and Germany, among others have also extended New Year wishes to the people of Ethiopia, and expressed optimism for the nationโs future.
The country has its own unique calendar in the world with 13 months. Each of the 12 months has 30 days. The 13th month, Pagumen, has 5 or 6 days during each leap year.
