UK reaffirms commitment to driving stability and growth in Ethiopia and the region
Addis Ababa, October 29, 2024 (FBC) – The government of the United Kingdom has encouraged Ethiopia’s sustained contribution to regional stability and reaffirmed its continued development support to the East African nation.
This story was disclosed by the Ministry of Finance after the meeting between Ethiopia’s Minister of Finance Mr. Ahmed Shide and the UK’s Minister for Development Minister Anneliese Dodds.
It was indicated that the two ministers had productive discussion on current political and economic issues in Ethiopia, on the sideline of the 2024 WB and IMF Annual Meetings in Washington D.C.
On the occasion, Mr. Ahmed Shide briefed the UK Minister on his government’s macroeconomic reform implementation and the recently concluded successful First Program Review by the IMF, while underscoring the sustained support needed from bilateral partners to support the high cost related to social spending as part of the reform measures.
The UK Minister, on her side, commended the reform efforts, including the political leadership and the pro-poor and inclusive approach pursued in designing and implementing the reform policies.
She welcomed the early gains and progress on enhancing investment climate to attract more FDI, encouraged Ethiopia’s sustained contribution to regional stability, and reaffirmed UK’s continued development support to Ethiopia.
The two sides agreed on deepening the longstanding bilateral ties through high level engagement and building on shared regional and global priorities.
