Turkish members of Turkey-Ethiopia friendship platform vow support to GERD
Addis Ababa, March 25, 2021 (FBC) – Members of Turkey-Ethiopia Friendship Platform committed support for the Grand Ethiopian Renaissance Dam (GERD) saying the dam is instrumental that would help Ethiopia lift her people out of poverty.
President of Turkey Ethiopia Friendship Platform, Oğuz Atalay said GERD will be ranked first in Africa and seventh in the World, adding that the dam will change many things in Ethiopia including electrification of the rural community.
Oğuz Atalay met with president of AK Party Bandirma District, Mehmet Dogan and briefed him on Turkey-Ethiopia longstanding relations and GERD. He presented him also the Ethiopian coffee as gift of nature.
Can Korudag, a Turkish businessman in Istanbul, to his part, said the justice of Nile should be ensured by equal distribution of its waters to riparian countries. He expressed commitment to support the construction of the dam.
Ahmet Cakir, Marketing coordinator of Ravza Company, said GERD is a project that will accelerate the social and economic development in Ethiopia and make the country a leading power hub in the region. “I support the dam because Ethopia is building it just to fight poverty and create regional economic integration.”
