Trust building efforts made to transfer condos to winners: Mayor

Addis Ababa, November 15, 2022 (FBC) – The Mayor of Addis Ababa, Adanech Abiebie, stated that the Capital city administration has made every trust-building and transparent effort on the transfer of  20/80 and 40/60 condos to lucky winners.

The Mayor attended the lottery drawing to transfer houses to winners of Addis Ababa city inhabitants on Tuesday afternoon.

Mayor Adanech Abiebie, during the drawing ceremony, stated that the city administration is developing various options to improve housing supply.

She went on to recall that the City administration nullified the previous condos drawing due to lack of theft and alleged corruption.

“There are several challenges with the condominiums that are being transferred today; from contractors abandoning their work during the political regime change four years ago, infrastructure theft, construction quality problems, lack of finance, rising prices of construction materials and other problems that forced us go through a complicated process”, the Mayor said.

She mentioned that the city administration borrowed more than 21 billion Birr from the Commercial Bank of Ethiopia to solve all those challenges. Hence, it went on to accomplish its efforts despite all those massive challenges.

She also mentioned that legal actions have been taken against those individuals involved with theft of public property.
