Tree planting data goes transparent, scientific as monitoring assisted with technology: GCS

Addis Ababa, July 17, 2023 (FBC) – In a press briefing held in connection with the launch of the campaign of planting of 500 million in a day, State Minister for the Government Communication Service, Selamawit Kassa, stated that the Green Legacy Initiative which started four years ago has enabled Ethiopians to create synergy, unity and strength towards realizing a better country.

Millions have flocked to tree planting sites since early morning to take part in the campaign, the State Minister said.

The monitoring of the tree planting camping will be assisted with technological mechanism so as to collect numerical data from 9,000 sites all over the country, she indicated.

“Anyone interested can easily identify the species of the seedlings being planted and know what is happening in planting sites through the up to date information to be distributed from the situation room with a transparent and scientific manner,” Selamawit pointed out.

Selamawit further underscored that the Green Legacy Initiative has been contributing a significant contribution in the efforts underway to realize a clean and livable Ethiopia besides tackling impacts of climate change.
