Traditional Gold Miners Exempted of Royalty Payments
Addis Ababa, September 21, 2021 (FBC) – Ethiopia has exempted traditional and Small-scale gold miners of the royalty they pay for regional states. It is aimed to encourage miners in the business and help boost production.
Mines and Petroleum Minister Takele Uma noted that traditional gold miners have greatly subsidized the economy for ages and need to be encouraged now.
Government is determined to take strict measures on illegal actors in the sector, Takele said.
Documents show that Ethiopia targets a 10 percent contribution of the mining sector to the GDP by 2025.
