TPLF impeding efforts to bring normalcy to region: Ambassador
Addis Ababa, July 14, 2021 (FBC) – Ethiopian Ambassador to Djibouti, Berhanu Tsegaye has received a courtesy visit from his U.S. counterpart, Jonathan Pratt at his office on Wednesday.
During the discussions, Ambassador Berhanu, recalling the declaration of the unilateral ceasefire, noted that it was meticulously studied in advance and executed with the understanding that the people in Tigray region should use the farming season undisturbed.
Moreover, the government has ensured the safe withdrawal of the Eritrean forces from the Ethiopian territories and continued to commit itself to provide the necessary humanitarian assistance in the region, added the Ambassador.
Sadly, the TPLF has continued retaliatory brutal killings and brought obstacles to efforts to bring normalcy to the region.
Ambassador Berhanu, referring to the 6th National Election held very recently, highlighted the election’s credibility, transparency and serenity.
The electoral process way indisputable as the National Electoral Board fairly executed the election as has been the case in the past; and various actors including the media, civil societies, Human Rights Commission and courts transparently monitored the voting process, he explained.
Ambasador Jonathan Pratt, to his part, conveyed his congratulatory message to the Government and people of Ethiopia for the successful closure of the election, and commended the strong Ethio-Djibouti ties on multifaceted arrays.
The two sides have also discussed issues of common interest on economic, social and political frontiers.
