Tis Abay II hydropower plant aims to generate 220GWh electricity this year

Addis Ababa, October 3, 2022 (FBC) – The Tis Abay II hydroelectric power plant has announced a plant to generate 220GWh of electricity as of this Ethiopian fiscal year.

Tis Abay II hydroelectric power plant, which has been in disrepair for more than eight years, has completed its work and has started producing 25 megawatts of energy.

According to Dejene Guta, Manager of Tis Abay II, regular maintenance and repair activities are underway to build on the capacity of the hydroelectric plant thereby achieve the plan set.

Currently, all the turbines of the hydroelectric plant are fully functional and producing electrify to their fullest capacity as a result of intensive repair works done so far, Dejene said.

Last year, Tis Abay II produces 180.3 GWh of electricity surpassing the plant set to generate 157.8 GWh, according to the manager.
