Timket festival celebrated in Tigray region
Addis Ababa, January 19, 2023 (FBC) – The Timket (Ethiopian Epiphany) festival is being celebrated colourfully in different parts of Tigray region.
Abba Mehari Habte, Head of the Axum Tsion Mariam Monastery, said that this year’s Timket festival is being celebrated in different areas of the region with optimism thanks to the return of peace and stability in the northern Ethiopia.
Apart from being a religious celebration, the Timket festival ceremony continues to be celebrated within its cultural values.
It is known that Timket, besides to being a national treasure, is inscribed by the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) in 2019 as one of the world’s intangible heritages.
The festival is being celebrated today throughout Ethiopia with various religious and cultural ceremonies in a manner that preserves its religious and traditional values.
