The war has stolen our time and dreams: Tigrayan Youths
Addis Ababa, December 25, 2022 (FBC) – Tigrayan youths contacted by FBC said that the war has stolen their youthhood and dreams, citing traumatic events they are dealing with.
Kibrom Giush and Tesfa Gebregiyorgis who are residents of Shire town told Fana Broadcasting Corporation (FBC) that the war killed thousands of youths in the country, destroying their dreams.
Kibrom recounted that he was working for a Japanese company after graduating from Mekelle University in Geology. He said that he had been supporting his family from what he was earning from his job in the Japanese company operating in the region before the war erupted.
Kibrom said that he has lost his friends, adding that he has been lucky to cheat death amidst fatal circumstances.
Tesfa, for his part, said he had been leading a married life in Jimma before he was caught in the crossfire when he came to Shire to visit relatives. Tesfa said he was hoping to be a successful fashion designer; but, he added that his dream had been disrupted by the war.
The two said the people are weary of the warfare and are demanding normal life, calling for effective implementation of the Cessation of Hostility Agreement (CoHA) to ensure lasting peace in the country.
