‘The Green Legacy’ film chosen for upcoming international film festivals

Addis Ababa, November 9, 2024 (FBC) – Ethiopia continues to make strides in its annual planting initiative, the Green Legacy Initiative, which was introduced by Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed in 2019. Over the past six years, the country has committed itself to this ambitious program, resulting in significant improvements to its forest cover.

According to the newly released Forest Cover report, Ethiopia’s forest cover has impressively increased from 17.2% in 2019 to 23.6% by 2023, as highlighted by Billene Seyoum, Press Secretary of the Office of the Prime Minister.

In celebration of this achievement, ‘The Green Legacy’ film, an international film that debuted in June 2024—showcases the considerable effects of this national initiative. Through a collection of moving personal narratives, the film illustrates how the Green Legacy Initiative has not only transformed the landscape of Ethiopia but also positively impacted the lives of its citizens.

The film is set to make its mark on the global stage, having been selected for screening at several international film festivals in the upcoming months, starting with its feature at the Bridge for Peace Festival in France today.

Additional screenings include the Africa USA International Film Festival on November 17, 2024, the Logo Lumina Flicks International Short Film Festival in Albania, and the Cinemaking International Film Festival in Bangladesh, both on December 26, 2024.
