The first Isuzu vehicles assembling center inaugurated
Addis Ababa, October 14, 2023 (FBC) – The first Isuzu vehicle assembly, sales and after-sales center in Ethiopia inaugurated today in the outskirts of Addis Ababa, Alem Gena area, part of the newly formed Sheger city.
The opening ceremony was attended by Minister of Transport and Logistics, Mr. Alemu Simie, Minister of Industry, Mr. Melaku Alebel, Minister of Revenues, Ms. Aynalem Niguse, Mayor of Sheger City, Mr. Teshome Adugna, Ambassador of Japan to Ethiopia, Ms. Ito Takako, and other guests.
In his remarks during the inaugural ceremony, Alemu Simie emphasized the importance of creating globally competitive transport and logistics sector in order to establish more assembling plants like this.
Mentioning that local products are preferable to save foreign currency, the Minister affirmed that his ministry will encourage and provide support to manufacturers of the sector.
It is also stated that the opening of the Japan-made Isuzu vehicle assembly, sales and post-sales center will play a significant role in creating employment opportunities for citizens and supporting the national economic reform agenda.
Gebre-Michael Girmay, Executive Officer of Kaki Motors Private Limited Company, said that the center will be very instrumental in replacing imported products with local products.
It is learned that the newly inaugurated center will assemble 2,500 trucks per year when it is operating at full capacity.
