The 40th Ordinary Session of AU Executive Council kicks off in Addis Ababa

Addis Ababa, February 2, 2022 (FBC) – The 40th Ordinary Session of the African Union Executive Council has kicked off in Addis Ababa.

Foreign Minister of members countries of the AU and senior officials of several organizations in the continent are participating in the ordinary session under the theme of “Building Resilience in Nutrition on the African Continent: Accelerate the Human Capital, Social and Economic Development”.

The ordinary session has started discussing the agenda to be referred to the 35 Ordinary Session of the Assembly of Heads of State and Government of the African Union.

In his remarks, Commissioner of the African Union Commission, Moussa Faki Mahamat stated that peace and security of the continent is being threatened due to various reasons over the past years, calling for actions to avert the situation.

Resurgences of unconstitutional government changes in the last few months in various parts of the continent are a sign deficiency that must be addressed to realize better continent, he said.

The Coronavirus pandemic has badly impacted the social and economic activities in of the continent, he said.

He reaffirmed the commitment of the AUC towards building a prosperous Africa. added that several programs have been implemented in the education, science and technology sectors calling for continued efforts to realize a better Africa.

He stressed need to indigenous contributions to address challenges in the continent.
