Sudan to chair next GERD round of meeting
Addis Ababa, October 28, 2020 (FBC) –Ethiopia, Sudan and Egypt yesterday resumed negotiation on the Grand Ethiopian Renaissance Dam (GERD).
Ministers of Foreign as well as Water Affairs from the three countries attended the meeting held virtually under the auspices of the African Union (AU).
According to joint statement issued by Ethiopia’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Ministry of Water, Irrigation and Energy, “the ministers deliberated on the resumption of the tripartite negotiation on the dam within the AU framework.”
Accordingly, the three countries are expected to discuss and finalize in the coming seven days the way forward and the workable timeline for the negotiation and to narrow gaps on outstanding issues.
They have also reached understanding for ministers of the three countries to meet at the end of this round of negotiation.
The next meeting is expected to be held in the coming few days under the chairmanship of Sudan.
