Standing committee garners inputs to draft proclamation of national dialogue commission
Addis Ababa, December 22, 2021 (FBC) – Legal Justice and Democratic Affairs Standing Committee of the House of Peoples Representatives undertook a consultation meeting with various stakeholders to garner inputs to the draft establishment proclamation of the national dialogue commission.
National Electoral Board of Ethiopia, Ethiopian Human Rights Commission, Joint Council of Ethiopian Political Parties and several civic society organizations took place in the consultative meeting.
The major duties of the commission shared within the proclamation is identifying agenda items that would contribute to national consensus, identifying stakeholders that would need to participate in the national dialogue, convening the dialogue platforms themselves, crafting implementation processes for recommendations coming out of the national dialogue, and then follow up on implementation plans.
The draft proclamation is expected to pass in the coming weeks. The establishment of the commission will inevitably open up another phase in Ethiopia’s democratization process anchored in inclusivity and addressing these contestations in an Ethiopian form, and manner, Press Secretariat of the Office of the Prime Minister said yesterday.
