South Sudan receives greenlight from AU to hold its first-ever election
Addis Ababa, July 27, 2023 (FBC) – The South Sudanese government says African Union has given the country a greenlight to go ahead with preparations for next year’s general elections.
According to South Sudan’s office of the President, the country’s Ambassador to Ethiopia, Djibouti and Permanent Representative to AU, IGAD and UNECA James Pitia Morgan disclosed this while briefing President Kiir on the current regional matters on Thursday.
Morgan says, “if the continental body gives a greenlight, then the country should be ready for the elections”.
He said the African Union is ready and happy to see into it that South Sudan conducts its first elections after gaining independence 12 years ago.
