Some 20 Million Youth to Participate in Nat’l Voluntary Service Program This Rain Season
Addis Ababa, June 21, 2023 (FBC) – A national service program that mobilizes 20 Million youth volunteers will be launched next Friday, according to the Ministry of Women and Social Affairs.
Briefing the media today, Women and Social Affairs Minister Ergogie Tesfaye said the volunteer service program will be conducted this rainy season.
The youth are expected to benefit more than 50 million people through the program, she added.
Planting tree seedlings, blood donation, renovation of homes of the elder, traffic and road safety, are among the voluntary services to be carried out, it was learned.
The minister elaborated that the youth from different parts of the country will travel to different parts of the country to provide services and share the best experiences.
Recall that 19 million youth participated in the voluntary service last rainy season, benefiting 48 million people.
Meanwhile, Ministry of Women and Social Affairs has signed today a project agreement with international development partners to redevelop and restore basic services in conflict-affected areas.
The project will be implemented in 40 selected woredas in the next two years, sources said.
