Six bridges restored in war-affected areas of Amhara, Afar and Tigray regions
Addis Ababa January 16, 2023 9FBC) – Six bridges that were damaged due to the war in Amhara, Tigray and Afar regions have been repaired and put into service after completion of reconstruction works.
Getnet Zeleke, Director of Bridge and Structure Works in Ethiopian Roads Administration, stated that repair works have been done for six bridges, including the Alwehan Bridge, with a cost of more than 175 million birr.
It is to be recall that Alwehan Bridge had been damaged previously, and a 54.86 meter long supportive steel bridge was built to give service.
However, due to the damage caused again due to the war, it was announced that a new 109.73 meter long steel bridge built to avoid the risk of falling on the temporary steel bridge, ERA stated.
Thus, apart from the Alwaha Bridge that crosses from Woldia to Qobo, the 48.86 meters long Chereti Bridge that crosses from Millae-Chefra-Woldia, the 27.43 meters Tekeze 3 Bridge that connects Humera and Shire, and the 48.86 meters Gobu Bridge that connects to the rural areas of Qobo have been properly repaired and went operational ERA explained.
ERA also said that the 48.86 meter Tekeze Bridge on the road from Amdework to Ebenat and the 42.67 meter Tsielare bridge from Korum to Sekota have been properly repaired and are now in service.
Important maintenance, upgrading and upgrading activities will be carried out on the war-damaged bridges and roads in these areas, ERA indicated.
