Senior diplomats, think tanks in Asia and Pacific regions discuss GERD
Addis Ababa, November 28, 2020 (FBC) – Ministry of Foreign Affairs in partnership with Embassies in Asia and Pacific regions held a webinar entitled, “Briefing on Negotiations and Legal issues on the Grand Ethiopian Renaissance Dam (GERD).
Senior diplomats, think tanks, media houses and parliamentarians from China, Australia, Japan, Indonesia, South Korea, and India participated in the virtual meeting held on November 27, 2020.
The webinar which focused at GERD was hosted by the Ethiopian Embassy in New Delhi, India and moderated by Ambassador Teshome Toga, Ethiopian Ambassador to People’s Republic of China.
Presenters on the webinar were Ambassador Reta Alemu, Ethiopian Ambassador to the State of Israel and Dr. Yilma Sileshi, Associate professor in water resources engineering at the Addis Ababa University.
The presentation focused on elaborating the status of the current AU facilitated tripartite negotiation on the GERD.
A wide ranging technical and legal issues, questions and comments were aired by the participants and presenters have elaborated on the queries raised.
The webinar is believed to have clarified some issues related to the GERD to the wider audience which included government officials, researchers and opinion makers.
