Seedling preparations underway for the 5th year of green legacy initiative: PM Abiy

Addis Ababa, May 23, 2023 (FBC) – Preparations are afoot to plant 6.5 seedlings in the 5th year of the Green Legacy Initiative, said Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed.

According to PM Abiy, the share of seedlings for fruit trees is also substantially higher this year.

Earlier last month, the Ministry of Agriculture confirmed that out of the total trees to be planted, 45 percent are aimed to boost the forest coverage while 55 are tailored to integrated agriculture practices and horticultural purposes.

The Green Legacy Initiative led tree planting drive has been significantly contributing to the efforts underway to ensure food security besides reinforcing the water and soil conservation activities, the Ministry said.

The nation has so far undertaken water and soil conservation activities on more than 1.8 million ha of land, it was learned.
