Security Service urges activists to refrain from disseminating false information
Addis Ababa, January 25, 2021 (FBC) – The National Intelligence and Security Service (NISS) has urged social media activists to refrain from trying to create confusion among the public by disseminating false information.
The Security Service’s comment came following the spread of false information by some activists abusing their right to freedom of expression.
In a statement issued today, NISS said those activists who are engaged in circulating fake news need to refrain from their illegal activities.
Those who operate to cause harms to the national interest and existence of the nation as well as to pose a threat to the peace and security of the people by spreading false information will face justice, it said.
The statement added that the National Intelligence and Security Service is working in close collaboration with other security organs to maintain peace and stability in the country.
