Russia keen on deepening cultural cooperation with Ethiopia: Ambassador
Addis Ababa, June 29, 2023 (FBC) – The Russian Embassy in Addis Ababa in cooperation with the Ministry of Culture of Russia organized an exhibition dedicated to Kizhi Pogost, the UNESCO inscribed world heritage site, and a roundtable on cultural and spiritual legacy of Ethiopia and Russia.
Members of the Russian delegation comprising officials of the Ministry of Culture and representatives of the Russian Orthodox Church and Ethiopian officials have participated in the events.
On the occasion the Russian Ambassador to Ethiopia, Evgeny Terekhin, stated that his country is committed to strengthen cultural cooperation and people to people ties with Ethiopia.
Saying that Russian cultural and musical ensembles presented their artistic works in Addis Ababa in two rounds since last year, the Ambassador announced efforts underway to enable Ethiopian counterparts stage the performances in Moscow as part of cultural exchanges between the two countries.
The cultural exchange is instrumental to enhance cooperation between the two countries in the tourism and other economic sectors. Ambassador Evgeny stated.
The event comes at a time when Ethiopia and Russia are celebrating their 125th Anniversary of the establishment of their diplomatic relations, the Ambassador indicated. pledging the commitment of his country to transform the ties to a higher level.
Director General of the Ethiopian Authority for Research and Conservation of Cultural Heritage, Ass. Prof. Abebaw Ayalew, for his part said that the exhibition gives lesson to Ethiopia on how to promote heritages at international level besides promoting cultural cooperation between the two countries.
During the roundtable, the Russian and Ethiopian side explored ways how to enhance cultural cooperation and people to people ties between the two counries.
