ROK medical team provides free heart surgery to children with CHD
Addis Ababa, February 2, 2024 (FBC) – The medical team from the Republic of Korea rendered free medical service to six children suffering from congenital heart disease at the Tikur Anbessa Specialized Hospital.
Comprising 15 members, the Korean medical contingent was stationed at the hospital, dedicating a span of five days to administer care to children with congenital heart diseases (CHDs).
Abebe Bezabh (MD), cardiothoracic surgeon at the hospital and head of the team, said that the Korean medical team provided surgical services that were beyond the expertise of local professionals.
According to him, congenital heart defects (CHDs) are present at birth and can affect the structure of a baby’s heart and the way it works. They can affect how blood flows through the heart and out to the rest of the body. The treatment requires a seasoned and specialized medical practitioner, making the operation more complicated, Dr. Abebe indicated.
It is indicated that the Korean medical team has been coming to Ethiopia to offer related services together with the professionals of the Tikur Anbessa Specialized Hospital for the last 8 years.
The hospital, via a social media post, indicated that this collaboration with the delegation will continue to be strengthened.
Meanwhile, St. Peter’s Specialized Hospital today confirmed that it will provide free medical treatment from February 5 to 9, 2024.
The free services include pediatrics, tuberculosis, dental, cardiovascular, dermatological, reproductive health, and plastic surgery.
It is mentioned that the hospital will provide these free services through a collaborative effort with the Egyptian Coptic Missionary, involving healthcare professionals from the United States.
In that regard, the hospital has further confirmed that individuals desiring to avail themselves of these services may present themselves at the hospital between 8:30 am and 5:30 pm on the specified days.
