Road project contracts worth 227bln ETB signed over the last three years
Addis Ababa, September 6, 2021 (FBC) – Transport Ministry announced that several road project agreements worth 227 Billion Birr have been signed between the government and contractors during the last three years.
Transport State Minister Kassahun Gofe stated that shortage of significant corridors is one of challenges identified in the road transport development sector of the country.
To address such a problem, over the last three years construction of giant corridors has been undertaken as per contracts signed in South Western and Western Ethiopia under the Growth and Transformation Pant Two (GTPII).
As per the efforts under way to integrate the Eastern African countries, Manda-Bure, Negele Borena-Dolo Ado- Melkasuftu, Nejojarso-South Sudan corridors development has been carried out during the last three years, he indicated.
Over the past three years, the government has constructed new roads and improved existing ones that cover 3,741 Km across various corners of the country, he said. Maintenance works are also done on 30,865 Km of roads, according to the State Minister.
