Qatar reiterates support to trilateral negotiation on GERD
Addis Ababa, June 15, 2021 (FBC) – Qatari Munucipalty and Environment Minister, Abdulla Bin Abdulaziz reiterated the commitment of his country to support the trilateral negotiation on the Grand Ethiopian Renaissance Dam (GERD).
“My country encourages Ethiopia, Sudan and Egypts to continue the trilateral talks and reach a comprehensive agreement on GERD issue”, the Minister said.
The pledge from the Qatari Minister came when he met with the Ethiopian Ambassador in Qatar Samia Zekaria and discussed with her on latest developments in the country.
Ambassador Samia briefed the Minister on the GERD negotiation, humanitarian activities in Tigray and the Ethiopia-Sudan border dispute explaining about Ethiopia’s unwavering stance to resolve the issues with peaceful mechanisms.
She said that Ethiopia is keen to transform its relationship with Qatar to a higher level in multifaceted areas of cooperation.
Saying that Ethiopia has an immense land and water resources, Ambassador Samia said the two countries can be able to ensure mutual benefit if they cooperate in the agriculture sector.
Ethiopia also wants to take lessons from Qatar in Date Palm cultivation, she said.
The two agreed to share experiences in the implementation of green initiatives which they are implementing at the same time.
He said Qatar is implementing a green initiative under the theme “Plant Million Tree” pledging his country’s commitment to scale up cooperation with Ethiopia in the sector. The Minister furtehr invited Ethiopia to take part the Qatari Horticulture Expo 2023.
