Public raises 605M Birr for GERD construction

Addis Ababa, June 1, 2020 (FBC) – Office of national council for the coordination of public participation on the Grand Renaissance Dam stated that the public has raised 605 Million Birr over the last months.

The financial support from the public has been securied through purchase of bond and 8100 Short Message service, the office indicated.

Out of the total financial support collected from the public, 79 Million Birr is raised during the month of April, 2020, according to the office.

The office disclosed that it is working to collect 1.2 Billion Birr till the end of the concluding fiscal year adding the coronavirus pandemic has brought about bottleneck to the efforts underway accordingly.

Ethiopians have contributed more than 13 Billion Birr for the construction of the Grand Renaissance Dam since its announcement in 2011, the public coordination office indicated.
