Proposals set forth by Ethiopia during 6th EU-AU Summit get acceptance
Addis Ababa, February 18, 2022 (FBC) – Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Ethiopia to Belgium, Luxembourg and European Institutions, Hirut Zemene, said that many of the proposals set forth by Ethiopia during the 6th EU-AU Summit were accepted by participants.
According to the Ambassador, Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed held fruitful bilateral talks with leaders of various countries and EU officials on the margins of the summit with a view to ensure benefits of Ethiopia.
Issues raised by Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed regarding cooperation and partnership, peace and security in Africa in the international arena and the current theme of the African Union were accepted.
Ambassador Hirut said that Ethiopia stressed need to embed the cooperation between Africa and the European Union on equality and mutual benefit.
The discussion the Premier conducted with various leaders and officials are focused on strengthening ties between Ethiopia and the European Union.
Hirut indicated that Prime Minister Abiy held talks with leader of Slovenia, incumbent chair of the European Union for six months, and France who has now taken over the presidency.
According to Ambassador Hirut, the conference agreed upon the necessities to ensure representation of the voice of Africa in peace and security spheres at the global level, fight poverty, mitigate the COVID 19 pandemic, strengthening renewable energy development and protect the rights migrants with stand points of Ethiopia and the continent Africa at large.
Saying that “Strengthening Ethiopia is crucial for the strengthening of the region,”, Hirut underscored that the nation is working hard to achieve its development goals.
Ethiopia which has been exerting maximum efforts in irrigation development, dry season wheat development, job creation and green development sectors has managed to echo its truth at the summit, Ambassador Hirut noted.
The conflict in the North has been well described as a phenomenon that Ethiopia was forced to enter into, and Prime Minister has well briefed the leaders and EU officials on the genesis of the war and the measures taken to ensure peace.
