Prominent Oromo singer Hachalu Hundessa shot dead

Addis Ababa, June 30, 2020 (FBC) – The prominent Oromo singer Hachalu Hundessa has been shot dead.

According to Addis Ababa police commission, he was killed last night in Addis Ababa at an area called Gelan Condominiums.

Getu Argaw, commissioner of the Addis Ababa police commission, said police have detained some suspects.

He said the commission will make public the results of the investigation.

Addis Ababa is currently in a stable condition, he said, further calling the public to stand in guard of peace in their areas.

Prime Minister Dr Abiy Ahmed expressed his condolences over the killing by saying “we have lost a precious life.”

“I express my deep condolences for those of us who are in deep sorrow since the news of the death of the shining young Artist Hachalu Hundesa is heard.”  “We are expecting full investigation reports of this evil act.”

The Prime Minister added that “we are at a time when we have to pay attention to activities in our country given the gravity of the matter. Let us express our condolences by keeping ourselves safe and preventing further crime.”
