Prof. Benyam Dawit of Ethiopia re-elected to UN Child Rights Committee
Addis Ababa, May 23, 2024 (FBC) – Professor Benyam Dawit of Ethiopia has been re-elected to the United Nations Committee on the Rights of the Child.
The election took place during the 20th Meeting of the States Parties, held today at the United Nations Headquarters in New York, United States.
The Committee on the Rights of the Child is a body of 18 independent experts responsible for monitoring the implementation of the Convention on the Rights of the Child and its Optional Protocols.
Professor Dawit’s re-election to this prestigious committee underscores Ethiopia’s commitment to the promotion and protection of children’s rights on the global stage.
The Convention on the Rights of the Child is the most widely ratified international human rights agreement, with 196 state parties.
