Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed pays homage to late Patriarch Abune Merkorios
Addis Ababa, March 12, 2022 (FBC) – Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed has paid homage to the late 4th Patriarch of the Ethiopian Orthodox Tewahdo Church, Abune Merkorios while attending the farewell event at Meskel Square.
The Premier said that the late Patriarch was serving the Ethiopian Orthodox Church and the nation with maximum devotion to pass on its full doctrine and spiritual heritages to generations.
“His Holiness Patriarch was lucky for he was serving the Church he loved much and his country the whole of his live,” he said.
Abiy also lauded his holiness for his contribution to the unification of the two synods of the Ethiopian Orthodox Church that had been separated for more than 26 years.
“The Patriarch extended his teachings and support to us with great contemplation, prayers, fatherly advice,” the Prime Minister said.
The Premier further urged Ethiopians to follow examples of the late Patriarch by avoiding quarrels and strengthening cooperation among one another. He also called on faithful to pray for peace and eternal rest to the late Patriarch.
