President Taye urges newly appointed Ambassador to enhance Ethiopia-U.S relations

Addis Ababa, January 31, 2025 (FMC) – President Taye Atske-Selassie has entrusted newly appointed Ethiopian Ambassador to the United States, Binalf Andualem, with the mission of deepening the enduring friendship between Ethiopia and the US.

During a swearing-in ceremony attended by President Taye, the ambassador was encouraged to approach his responsibilities with wisdom and sensitivity, emphasizing the importance of fostering strong international partnerships for Ethiopia.

Highlighting the significance of Ethiopia’s foreign relations, President Taye underscored the need to cultivate lasting ties through diplomacy. He noted that the US hosts a vibrant Ethiopian diaspora, calling on Ambassador Binalf to actively engage this community to support Ethiopia’s development.

Expressing confidence in the ambassador’s abilities, President Taye reiterated the crucial role that diplomats play in safeguarding national interests through citizen diplomacy, boosting economic connections, and promoting peace and security. He urged Ambassador Binalf to concentrate on these areas for the betterment of Ethiopia’s relations with the US.

Minister of Foreign Affairs Gideon Timothiwos also emphasized the long-standing diplomatic relationship between Ethiopia and the US, which has thrived for over 120 years. He stressed the importance of continued diplomatic efforts to protect national interests and to foster peace and cooperation in the region.

Minister Gideon pointed out that the success of Ethiopia’s political and economic reforms would further enhance cooperation with the US, placing significant responsibility on Ambassador Binalf to advance Ethiopia’s goals for peace, stability, and diaspora engagement.

Binalf Andualem, previously the Minister of Peace, was officially appointed as Ethiopia’s ambassador plenipotentiary and extraordinary on December 2, 2024.
