President Sahle-Work Zewde sends condolences on loss of His Holiness Patriarch Abune Merkorios

Addis Ababa, March 4, 2022 (FBC) – President Sahle-Work Zewde has extended condolences to Ethiopians on the loss of Patriarch of the Ethiopian Orthodox Tewahdo Church, His Holiness Abune Merkorios.

“His Holiness Abune Merkorios has gone to his Almighty God. I express my heartfelt condolences to his family and all Ethiopians. I was concerned about his health status after visiting him at a hospital yesterday. May God rest his Soul in heaven,” the President wrote in Facebook.

President Sahle-Work called on Ethiopians to accompany burial of the Patriarch so that he will be respectfully laid to rest.

The funeral of His Holiness Abune Merkorios will be held on March 13 at the Holy Trinity Cathedral in the capital with attendance religious leaders of sister Churches and faithful from all over the world.
