Ethiopia plans to reopen embassy in DR Congo
Addis Ababa, January 26, 2021 (FBC) – President Sahle-Work Zewde said Ethiopia is planning to reopen soon its embassy in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC).
The President made the announcement at a press conference she issued after a discussion with DRC President Félix Tshisekedi at the National Palace in Kinshasa.
President Sahle-Work said that the Government of Ethiopia supports and wishes a successful mandate to President Tshisekedi as head of the African Union (AU).
The two Presidents discussed ways to cement the ties between Kinshasa and Addis Ababa as well as exchanged views on topics of mutual interest.
President Sahle–Work also briefed her counterpart on the law enforcement operation that was undertaken by the Ethiopian government in the Tigray region.
Furthermore, she informed the President about the rehabilitation, peacebuilding, and humanitarian assistance currently underway in the region.
President Sahle-Work travelled to the DR Congo after concluding her visit to Tanzania.
In Tanzania, the President exchanged views with President John Magufuli, on bilateral, regional, and continental issues.
The two highlighted the importance of enhancing the strategic partnership between the two countries and agreed to hold the next joint-ministerial commission meeting in March or April of this year.
They also agreed to work closely in many sectors including trade, investment, and aviation.
