President conveys message of condolences over death of Moi
Addis Ababa, February 5, 2020 (FBC) –President Sahle-Work Zewde has expressed her condolences over the death of former Kenyan President Daniel arap Moi.
Moi died yesterday at the age of 95.
The President conveyed message of condolences to President Uhuru Kenyatta of Kenya.
Recalling the sacrifice the former President had paid for Kenya’s liberation, President Sahle said Moi contributed a lot for the inception of IGAD.
Moi will be remembered forever for what he had done for his people and African Unity, said the President.
The President wished all Kenyans, the Government of Kenya and families of the deceased consolation.
Stepped down in 2002, Moi was the country’s second president taking over after the death of Jomo Kenyatta in 1978.
Moi, born on 2 September 1924 into a farming family, was a close ally of Kenyatta in the run-up to Kenyan independence in 1963.
He served as home affairs minister from 1964 and in 1967 he became the country’s vice-president.
