President Sahle-Work chuffed by the launch of Addis Ababa-Algiers direct flights
Addis Ababa, September 23, 2023 (FBC) – The FDRE President Sahle-Work Zewde expressed her satisfaction on the launching Addis Ababa-Algeria direct flights where the inaugural flight of Air Algerie arrived in Addis Ababa on September 22, 2023.
The new flight from Algiers-Houari Boumédiène to Bole International Airport has brought Algerian Minister of Transport Youcef Chorfa and his delegation.
Accordingly, Minister Youcef Chofra and his delegation paid a courtesy call to President Sahle-Work Zewde. During the meeting the President expressed her delight to see this happening one year after she and the President of Algeria President Abdelmadjid Tebboune agreed, during her official visit in Algiers, on direct flights between their capitals.
She mentioned the key role played by the two countries on the continent while highlighting the opportunity to enhance trade, investment and tourism.
Ambassador Fisseha Shawel Director General of African Affairs at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ethiopia and Ethiopian Ambassador to Algeria, Nebiat Guetachew were in attendance.
It is believed that the new direct flight launched September 22, 2023 is a bold step to facilitate air connectivity as a crucial way to bolster people-to-people relations, trade, and investment.
The two countries have maintained vibrant relationships since the independence struggles for the liberation of Africa from the yoke of colonialism.
During Air Algerie’s maiden direct flight to Addis Ababa, the Algerian delegation, in support of Ethiopia’s Green Legacy Initiative, brought olive tree seedlings to Ethiopia.
