President of Senegal, AUC Chairperson hold wide-ranging discussion with Russian President
Addis Ababa, June 3, 2022 (FBC) – President of Senegal, Macky Sall alongside Chairperson of African Union Commissioner Moussa Faki Mahamat held a wide-ranging discussions with President Putin to reiterate the African Union’s position for the need of a political solution to the conflict between Russia and Ukraine and its grave human,economic costs to the Region and the world.
The two appealed for the suspension of sanctions against cereals and other key commodities, the need for their safe sea passage to mitigate the devastating economic and socio-economic effects of a growing food and energy crisis, further hampering global recovery from the COVID19 pandemic.
They further underscored the historical, strong fraternal relations between Russia and Africa and expressed the Continent’s fervent wish for compromise and dialogue to allow a negotiated settlement in the interests of global peace and stability.
President Putin, for his part, said that Russia has always been on Africa’s side and has always supported Africa in its fight against colonialism.
“Russia is striving to develop cultural ties with African countries and will do everything we can to promote this process. Here in Russia people have always been interested in African culture, and it is a big part of our interaction.”
