President arrives in Gondar to attend Timket celebration

Addis Ababa, January 19, 2020 (FBC) –President Sahle-Work Zewde arrived today in the city of Gondar, Amhara regional state, to attend Timket (Epiphany) celebration.

Upon arrival at the city, she was received by senior officials of the regional state.

Deputy Mayor of Addis Ababa city, Engineer Takele Uma and First Lady Zinash Tayachew also travelled to Gondar to attend the festival.

Gondar is one of the areas where Timket is celebrated colourfully. Tourists from various countries are also expected to attend the event.

Timket is a colourful festival celebrated all over Ethiopia to commemorate the baptism of Jesus Christ by John the Baptist in the River Jordan.

It was inscribed on the list of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity by UNESCO last month.
