President appreciates WFP’s contribution in Ethiopia, Africa
Addis Ababa, May 27, 2020 (FBC) – President Sahle-Work Zewde today met with David Beasley, Executive Director of the World Food Program (WFP).
Beasley elaborated on the various activities being undertaken by WFP in Ethiopia including Ethiopia serving as an air hub for distributing COVID-19 supplies and equipment throughout Africa.
The President Sahle-Work appreciated WFP’s contribution both in Ethiopia and Africa as a whole, according to office of the president.
This morning, the WFP chief also met with Ethiopia’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Gedu Andargachew.
Gedu appreciated the WFP’s initiatives in extending humanitarian support to Ethiopia especially at this difficult time of the COVID-19 pandemic.
Their discussion also covered the humanitarian crisis that the region is now facing due to desert locust invasions, floods, and the COVID-19 pandemic.
Gedu also used the opportunity to brief the Executive Director about Ethiopia’s stance on the filling and operation of the Grand Ethiopian Renaissance Dam (GERD).
