Preparations underway for export of local wheat grain: Minister

Addis Ababa, November 8, 2022 (FBC) – The Ministry of Trade and Regional Integration has announced that it has held discussions with exporters to export wheat to the foreign market.

The Minister of Trade and Regional Integration, Gebremeskel Chala, said preparations have already commenced to export high-quality wheat to the foreign market instead of importing aid wheat.

The Minister confirmed that the wheat will be exported after the country ensures the domestic consumption.

Teshale Belhu, Minister of State for Trade System and Licensing, for his part, said, to be competitive in the international market, the quality is non-negotiable. Exporters are obliged to take note of the requirement of high quality and standard of export wheat product.

Exporters also stated that this is a massive opportunity for Ethiopia to rebuild its image from being a wheat importer into an exporter.
